Activities We believe at Kairos that God has given us an enormous gift in the use of the John Innes Centre each Sunday morning, but we also recognise that with this gift also comes opportunity and responsibility. The opportunity is to present the gospel message in a comfortable and non-threatening setting, the responsibility is being God's ambassadors to the community around us, and the wider Wimbledon area. Kairos has agreed that the High Path Estate is a priority for our activity, prayers and outreach. Thursday night is football night; Tuesday night is the Fusion youth group evening. Kairos members are encouraged to participate in various ways. We’ve also been building a relationship with Merton Abbey School, taking school assemblies. A week in August for a team, led by Kairos’ Naomi Panter, to make a real difference on the High Path Estate. Involving the kids, doing something useful, building relationships and showing God’s concern for people. Kairos is a Fairtrade Church, serving Fairtrade tea and coffee, and Fairtrade wine at communion. We are at the heart of the campaign to attain Fairtrade borough status. Fairtrade Fortnight in March is a particular focus for activities. Every year thousands of visitors from all round the world come to Wimbledon. Many queue up all night – and we take the opportunity, with people from other churches in Wimbledon, to make sure they know they are welcomed by local Christians. A cold drink and a donut are very welcome as they are settling down for the night; it helps our visitors know that Christians care about them, and sometimes a deeper conversation is begun. An annual event every June, Kairos takes a space where people can have a pause, babies can have their nappies changed, and every passer-by has the opportunity to discover what Kairos has to offer. Once a month there has been a prayer evening for the Persecuted Church.
